I got her and Im grinding her right now (100k to go til zao) The question now is: does she play more as hitn run cruiser, an island camper or a long-range-fire-spitter.

The key is to constantly change speeds as well as the wiggling.

Same gun loadout, but better reload and turret arrangement.

More range. Worse concealment.

Heal. Shes basically the North Carolina to Atagos Alabama, the Bismarck to Atagos Tirpitz.

So, if you have an understanding of how to play Atago, youll do fine in her, because she plays like Atago with a few minor differences.

Use your concealment to your advantage, spam HE, surprise cruisers with AP when they arent paying attention, kite, be annoying.

If the enemy starts focusing you, silence your guns, disappear, reposition, and start firing again when theyre distracted or their guns are turned the wrong way.

Your concealment is 9.7km which is good enough to get a little closer than a normal cruiser and surprise enemy DDs with your powerful HE, allowing you to help your DDs win caps through burst damage.

Dont get into any extended, long-duration duels though - even with Reload Module, you wont be winning any DPM wars.

Dont be afraid to take incidental damage, like fires or random HE pens - your heal lets you shrug off the chip damage easily, but it wont save you from getting devstruck or sustained DPM, so dont tank for any extended periods, use your concealment instead.

Id argue that this is the best, most effective, and most influential way to play Ibuki - which is coincidentally a very similar playstyle to Atago and Zao.

The alternative is to mount Range Mod instead, and spam HE from 18km away, farming damage and not really doing anything significant until the mid-late game.

It wont help your team much, but itll allow you to slowly burn down targets from relative safety, and keep you alive until the later stages (where your concealment becomes more powerful).

However, I like to think of this playstyle as the easy way out - its boring, but if youre just looking to grind the Zao, itll get you past Ibuki with minimal trouble.

So, take your pick.

Its been a while since I played Ibuki, but when I did, I chose the former playstyle.

It suited me more.

At the absolute max range, sure you will live longer, but also be less impactfull and get less cap resets, less DD hits (percentage HP) and less likey to land torps.

And you can play both range and still get to a nice island and stop there and use Ibukis high arcs to shoot over it.

Spotterplane and reload module i think are a nice and a bit more flexible combo that for me at teast is more fun to play.

Long range sure you take HP and harass people so still help the team but it is a more solo orientated play.

Ive always ran range mod and rudder shift for maximum survivability.
